Frightful Weather Causes Inaugural “Rockin’ Around Cooperstown Ugly Sweater Run and Walk” Moved to December 13

Holiday Event invites everyone to come to Cooperstown to enjoy the holiday season, meet Santa, and shop local

The Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce and Clark Sports Center will partner to host the inaugural “Rockin Around Cooperstown Ugly Sweater Run and Walk” on Saturday, December 6. The event will encourage runners and walkers to venture through historic Cooperstown in their ugliest holiday sweaters and encourage patrons to shop and eat local, while visiting Santa’s home.

The event will begin at Santa’s House in Pioneer Park at approximately 12:30 p.m with Santa himself giving opening remarks. Participants will be given a Santa hat and silver bells to wear during their choice of a 4-mile or a 2-mile loop around Cooperstown that will begin and end at Main Street. Upon completion of the race, participants will receive either a free coffee courtesy of Stagecoach Coffee or a free beer from Brewery Ommegang’s beer trailer. Following the race, Cooperstown’s Main Street will become a block party with live music, kid’s activities including bouncy houses, an Elf on the Shelf scavenger hunt, horse drawn carriage rides, and a window decorating competition. Prizes will be given out for the Ugliest Sweater, the Ugliest Team Sweaters, and based on participants finish in the race.

“We hope to see this event become a staple in the region,” says Matt Hazzard, Interim Executive Director for the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce. “During the holiday season, Cooperstown is a magical place and the opportunity to showcase everything we have to offer is great for our community. We are excited and honored to partner with a great organization in the Clark Sports Center to bring this unique event to life.”

“The Clark Sports Center is excited to partner on this inaugural event.” says Val Paige, Director for the Clark Sports Center. “We take pride in promoting healthy lifestyles and with this event we get a chance to draw in people throughout the region to experience what makes Cooperstown such an extraordinary place all year round.”

The event will showcase Cooperstown’s beautiful Main Street and provide an opportunity for restaurants and retailers to showcase their businesses to the crowd of locals and visiting attendees. We encourage residents and visitors to attend the Cooperstown PTA Pancake Breakfast at 8 a.m. that morning and the Cooperstown Farmer’s Market beginning at 9 a.m. before heading to this event. Everyone is invited to attend this unique event. Main Street will be closed beginning at 11 a.m. from the Doubleday Field entrance to Hoffman Lane as well as Pioneer Street from Church St. to Stagecoach Coffee.
