It’s not very often Cooperstown, NY experiences a heat wave like we have seen this week. Here are a few ways on how to beat the heat and stay cool in Cooperstown!

Chill Out with Some Art and History!

The best part about visiting a museum on a hot day… it just might the climate controlled environment. Ice down your pitching arm with the greats at the National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum, catch the cool breeze portrayed in Thomas Cole’s landscapes at the Fenimore Art Museum, or get frozen in time at Heroes of Baseball Wax Museum.

Do Whatever Floats Your Boat!

Feel the breeze in your hair as you captain a pontoon from Time Out Boat Rentals down the lake. If slow and steady is more your speed, grab a kayak, canoe or paddle board from Canoe & Kayak Rentals and Sales and hit the open waters of beautiful Otsego Lake.

Water you doing? Head to the Beach!

Enjoy a day at the beach! Fairy Spring and 3 Mile Point are free for village of Cooperstown residents and just $5 for non-residents. Or head a little further north up the lake to Glimmerglass State Park where the beach is sandy and the snack bar is tasty!

Had Enough Fun in the Sun?!

Maybe swimming in the lake isn’t your cup of… iced tea! Visit the Clark Sport Center for an indoor swimming experience! While you’re there check out their many other activities including rock climbing, bowling, and the fitness game room. All of this fun is included with membership or a day pass which is just $10 per day!

There’s only one way to get Cooler!

Walk. In. Cooler. Truly, I cannot think of anything cooler than that! Check out Brewery Ommegang’s newly renovated visitor center and café. Have a nice cold beer, then check out the walk in beverage cooler to bring some tasty brews home with you! Visit Spurbeck’s Grocery’s walk in beer closest for a variety of locally and nationally source beers and hard ciders. On your way out grab a sandwich from their delicious deli. Don’t forget dessert, inside the refrigerated apple and pie room at the Fly Creek Cider Mill you can taste New York Apple Country® Apples, hand-picked, fresh from the orchard and then bring home some apples, pies, cider and more!
